Gentlemen of the Row v1.9 Beta 12

Hot on the heels of v1.9 beta 11 comes beta 12! I would definitely recommend that everyone upgrades to this version ASAP, as I rewrote a big chunk of the optional mod installer, and fixed the bugs where some of the slider mods wouldn’t install correctly. There is also a bunch of new content as well to check out.

You can download the latest betas on the beta download page, as per usual.

v1.9 BETA 12 CHANGELOG

Brotherhood Clone Villains (Maero, Jessica, Matt, Donnie)
Ronin Clone Villains (Kazuo, Jyunichi, Shogo, Dane Vogel)
Samedi Clone Villains (General, Sunshine, Veteran Child, Samedi female soldier)

TOTAL NEW OPTIONAL GANGS IN 1.9: 31

Test Slider Horror optional mod by IdolNinja added to the installer

Boosts all the slider values to the extreme so you can exaggerate all features (eyes, nose, brow, etc.) This will look WEIRD on your current character, and probably best for starting a new character or just messing around with.

No Ronin Jacket Logos by RedRage (Optional Mod)

Adds an option in the menu to remove the dragon logo from the back of Ronin Jackets. This is only for the male and female Ronin jackets, and not Jyunichi’s that has morph issues.

The following clothing items have been fixed so that they no longer pixelate through inappropriately when worn by female characters:
* Sunshine’s one-off jacket
* General’s Coat
* General’s Shirt
* Save Earth Tee
* Women’s Biker Jacket
* Tobias Pants

MISC TWEAKS AND FIXES

Rewrote a big chunk of the optional menu installer and broke everything up into categories to allow for expansion. Also corrected some bugs where certain mods wouldn’t install correctly like the height ones.

Added original spray tags as a choice in the optional installer

Added original crazy salesman jacket dollar signs as a choice in the installer

Disabled Aisha Crib cash lightcone from within mission tss03 Down Payment so it no longer appears in the opening cutscene.

Added Doorman npc morph cheat. The code is #182.

Removed mosaic pixelization from Assless Chaps on both rear and pelvis.

    Is there an easy way to get rid of the extreme sliders patch? I’m currently stuck with an ugly character.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @phexitol
      Just don’t select it when you build your patch. It won’t install and you’ll be back to base values for everything.

      I’m working on trying to modify it in permanently with extended high and low values (it’s being a pain.)

  2. phexitol says:

    Either that, or make the extreme sliders work both ways, so they can be extra low or extra high, which would make even more abominations possible, while still allowing for normal character builds >:-)

  3. phexitol says:

    I tried that, but the character is still in fugly mode.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @phexitol
      Did you try that with beta 12 I just released? Some of the sliders menu choices had some problems with the batch file logic that I rewrote. Also, check your optional_mod_stuff\1-MODDERS_-_PUT_YOUR_OWN_PERSONAL_MODS_HERE\ folder and make sure nothing is in there (especially player_creation.xtbl)

      You can also try going to the plastic surgeon and choosing the default male/female character and have it reset everything.

      If that doesn’t work, upload your save somewhere so I can take a look.

  4. phexitol says:

    Still get the same ugly “default” (default + extreme sliders stuck). I’ll upload a save somewhere and post back.

    The first time I tried getting back to normal, I deleted everything out of that folder, and then relaunched the BAT, but the slider mod was still active after I hit build and relaunched the game. And of course, I’m completely quitting out of SR2 each time before trying to change things.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @phexitol
      I just did the same thing and it worked fine for me. Something seriously weird must be going on with your game or save. If you can, upload your built patch.vpp_pc as well and I’ll unextract it and try to see what happened.

    Also, if it helps at all:
    Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit
    Intel Core 2 duo@2.33GHZ
    4GB RAM
    I’ve been using SR2 with and without ENBSeries and TEXMod, no difference either way as far as corrupt skin thumbnails and permanent ugly character.

  6. phexitol says:

    That was my save, my patch.vpp_pc is currenly uploading.

    Password to the ZIP is your nick, all lowercase:

  9. phexitol says:

    Oh, sorry. Yep, empty

    • IdolNinja says:

      @phexitol
      This may be a dumb question, but you are taking your newly built patch.vpp_pc from MY_CUSTOM_PATCH and putting it in your steam install folder to overwrite the existing one, correct?

  10. phexitol says:

    0_o

    • IdolNinja says:

      @phexitol
      The batch file doesn’t do that for you. You have to manually replace the patch.vpp_pc with the one it creates. It tells you so on the final screen when the build is complete.

  11. phexitol says:

    I did the first time, but it seems to have slipped my mind after that. Hectic work weeks will do that :)

  12. phexitol says:

    I didn’t know pegtool was stable/usable enough yet.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @phexitol
      pegtool ahs been working great for me and other modders. It does have issues with a few things like tattoos and certain tilesheets, but it’s totally solid otherwise.

  13. rudemaker says:

    Would it be possible to have no sword on the ronin jacket?

  14. rudemaker says:

    I’ll look that up sometime! :)

  15. OMFGitsST6 says:

    Well I’m thoroughly addicted to HazMat teams and ex-Ultor execs blowing crap up in the Grizzlies, Interceptors, and Cruisers I added to the gang customization thing with your help Idol. :D

    But I’m afraid I must tug your sleeve for help again. I’ve spent my morning trying to add vehicle variants to the Gang_Customization.XTBL and I can’t quite figure it out. For example, I can get the generic Grizzly APC, but not the Ultor or SWAT ones. What do I have to enter in the XTBL vehicle name to get those working?

  16. Jon says:

    @phexitol

    Where did you get the ENBseries? I can’t find it.

  17. Raptamei says:

    Question – I’m still using 1.9 beta 8 (didn’t have the time to upgrade yet) and found a strange character customisation quirk. For a while my character used the brightest form of white hair (row 2 column 6). I changed this, but now every time I go to the plastic surgeon tab the hair goes back to white, and when I set it to something else and go to another tab it’s white again. The only way to keep a different hair colour is by hitting escape on the head tab itself.

    I didn’t see anything about this in the changelog between version 8 and 12, so just fyi.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Raptamei
      Thanks for letting me know. I’ll take a look and see if I can duplicate it. Would you also mind uploading or emailing me your save so I can test it as well? It would also be great if you could test it out with the latest beta 12 release and see if it does the same thing.

      Thanks!

  18. phexitol says:

    http://enbdev.com/index_en.html -> click on downloads. I use an older one which was made for Burnout Paradise with Saint’s Row 2.

  19. phexitol says:

    Somewhat off-topic: are there purchasable roller skates (and if so, where?)? I checked a store items list at GameFAQs, but didn’t see it there, and wondered if you have been able to mod the roller skate model so that it’s usable for players. I almost thought there wasn’t an actual mesh of them, as I saw several NPCs skating in regular shoes, but I definitely saw a female NPC wearing skates a couple of hours ago.

  20. Cohuge says:

    Hey, me again. Now the problem is whenever I spawn, for a save or a death, I get stuck in a building or something, I am not sure. My character is invisable, unmovable and in a constant fall. The optionals I am using are handeling, open and huge muscles. Sorry if I sound rude.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Cohuge
      First I’ve heard of that one. Crib and hospital spawn points never ever change. Have you tried building it without any optional mods and seen if it works?

  21. Jon says:

    @phex
    It’s probably not a bad idea to use the GTAIV one, right?

  22. Cohuge says:

    Still not working, I will just reinstall SR2 as it seems to happen when I reverted back to 11. Most likely a fault on my end.

  23. phexitol says:

    @IdolNinja
    Thx :)

    @Jon
    Most of the GTAIV ones won’t work very well, if at all. GTA IV uses much more complicated shaders than Saint’s Row 2, and ENBSeries for GTA IV was designed to modify those specific shaders while the game is running.

    In fact, your inquiry earlier made me curious, so I tried one of the recent ENBSeries for GTA IV on SR2, and it made a lot of shadows actually lighter than what they were being cast on. Kind of cool/weird, but would get annoying after awhile, at least for me.

    The older ENBSeries don’t do that so much, they mostly just add bloom, and the Burnout Paradise one adds a softening effect that creates a look similar to AA without using as much resources, and also gives a cinematic look.

    At the same time, don’t be afraid to experiment, just make sure you backup any files that you modify in case SR2 no longer runs properly after trying something.

  24. Proto/type of Insan.ity says:

    On the topic of changing vehicles and different options, is there a way to make the o-yeah a gang vehicle and can you change the o-yeah in the files? for example colors, it is startling to me when a cop car shows up…and figure out its a cop

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Proto
      You can add it to the selectable list the Saints can drive by adding an entry for fc_oyeah in gang_cutsomization.xtbl. Not sure about the colors though since it wasn’t my work. Normally those things are controlled in a vehicle’s cvtf file rather than a text editable xtbl file. I’ll look into it.

  25. Georgo[o]n says:

    What does the handling mod ? :P

    btw. Try doing that in an open version will be all cheats in the phone ;)

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Georgo[o]n
      The handling mod lowers the sensitivity while driving if you’re using a keyboard. Some people love it, some people hate it.

      Cheats and the phone are part of the save file which we can’t manipulate (yet.)

  26. DonC says:

    Is it possible to make the hot fuzz missions free roam? so your not doing anything for that camera man.. your just a cop going round?

    • IdolNinja says:

      @DonC
      Maybe. You would have to do it as a mission I think and rescript everything. The problem is that the activities are kind of a closed door to us. We can’t really get inside the files and see how they work.

  27. OMFGitsST6 says:

    @Idol:
    I have a theory about the car variants. I’m no closer to figuring them out than I was two days ago, but there must be some way to indicate them because Ultor vehicles spawn outside Club Koi in the mission “Picking a Fight.”

    • IdolNinja says:

      @OMFGitsST6
      Missions and in-game spawns are completely different. You can absolutely specify variants in a mission’s cts file which controls coordinates. The random spawning of in-game vehicles is different. The xtbl for gang customization just doesn’t seem to support that and will always choose a saints variant for gangs if available.

  28. Jon says:

    Is there any way to save a character you made as an NPC for mission usage? Weren’t you doing this with that Luz character?

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Jon
      No, the Luz homie was already in the game for Hotels and Marina drug trafficking. I did not create her.

      The characters that a player creates, and npcs are completely different in how they are made up. Your character is made up of sliders, main story npcs are made of facial textures, and regular random npcs are made and assembled of stock parts with randomized elements.

      There is really no way to do what you’re thinking of.

  29. Jon says:

    @Idol
    I see.

  30. Jon says:

    @phex
    I noticed serious slowdown when using the BP ENB. Any suggestions?

  31. Jon says:

    Black screen after finishing Heli Assault in front of Hospital.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Jon
      What level? Level 1? How many times did you try? It might just have been random, since I just finished the whole thing without that happening.

  32. Jon says:

    I finished the whole thing.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Jon
      So it was level 6 then? Black screens after mission and activity completion are a common issue with vanilla sr2 with no fix for it other than to replay. My first guess is that this is the case and you should replay level 6 and see if it happens again.

  33. phexitol says:

    @Jon
    I get only the slightest amount of slowdown when using it. What are your PC specs?
