Mall Security Upgrade

Added in an awesome little mod from CPast that changes the Toad ATVs that Mall security rides to the Ultor Knoxville golf carts. CPast, thanks for posting that one in the comments! I love it!

    That is very well done. Kinda scary lol but awesome. any chance you can change order of clothes (just saw Green hornet and I want to dress like Seth Rogan but can’t because the vest takes away a jacket)

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Proto
      Sorry, but that’s not really something I can do for GotR. The problem with changing clothing slots now is that it will totally screw up any saves where the player has an outfit (or is wearing) two items now in the same slot. It would be a crashing nightmare. You could still do this yourself though in customization_items.xtbl and put the vest in any of the new Misc slots; back pants pocket, wallet chain, or loose belt. You could probably also change it to use the Bra slot which was our go-to slot before we got the Misc ones working. Then just build your own custom version.

  2. Proto/type of Insan.ity says:

    sweet, I think that would be best thank you much, I take it I open it as a notepad file and tada?

  3. Proto/type of Insan.ity says:

    oh…wait nvm its an excel file

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Proto
      Nope. It’s a simple text file. Do not open it with Excel. If you save it will do all sorts of crazy formatting to it. Just use Notepad.

  4. Proto/type of Insan.ity says:

    Wait how do you change the slots, I changed it on the notepad but how do I make it permanent?

  5. rudemaker says:

    So if I wanted to do this i would have to remove all outfits that have vests

  6. rudemaker says:

    ooh so i would just have to remove a bra the It would be all better

  7. Lockstar says:

    Ummmm. wow maybe off topic but i noticed that the game crashes all of the time when i enter the mall. and thats never happened before until recently.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Lockstar
      What exact build are you using? Does it continue to do this if you revert back to a previous build? Have you tried a different save file? Are you using the fully patched encrypted Steam exe at v1.2?

      I was just in the mall with the latest build with zero issues.

  8. Lockstar says:

    Well I use cheats is that it? because I’m using the latest build….

    • IdolNinja says:

      Lockstar, you didn’t answer my questions, so I’ll ask them again:
      * What exact build are you using? There are SIX of them.
      * Have you tried a previous build to see if it does the same thing?
      * Have you tried an older save file?
      * Is your Saints Row 2 the legal encrypted Steam version?

  9. Lockstar says:

    1. 1.9 b8
    2. Yes, and this never happened
    3. Yes, and the same thing happened
    4. Yes

    • IdolNinja says:

      There are six different builds of 1.9 Beta 8; Standard, Standard 360, Standard PS3, Open, Open 360, and Open PS3. Which exact one are you using?

      So, you’re saying that after the problem started, you installed an older build like v1.9 beta 7a to troubleshoot and it still did the same thing? If not, you should test that:
      http://finalack.com/Idol/sr2/test/Gentlemen_of_the_Row_Saints_Row_2_Super_Mod_v1.9_BETA_7a.rar
      ^You may need to paste that link into your address bar so it doesn’t redirect, instead of just clicking it

      Try any of these save files and tell me what happens:
      http://finalack.com/Idol/sr2/source/saves/

      By doing this, you are trying to determine if either:
      * Your SR2 install is corrupt
      * Your save file is corrupt
      or
      * A certain version of the mod is corrupt (only the standard build has been tested thoroughly.)

      It’s usually a save problem when stuff like that happens, so that is my guess.

  10. Lockstar says:

    Well, I use the standard build because I enjoy paying for clothes. However I use cheats frequently. I used the open build of GOTR 1.9 beta 7a (correct me if I am wrong but there is one correct, because i did not have to pay for clothes, and all of the cribs were $1) so I was wondering if it crashes because I’m using the standard build.

    • IdolNinja says:

      Well no, you should be able to switch between different versions without any issue. Open and Standard builds should be 100% compatible. I’m still confused though as to what exactly you are doing. So, you’re saying that you used to use beta 7a open and everything worked fine, but then you installed beta 8 standard and that is when it started crashing?

      So, I ask you… if you revert back to the previous build you were using before (beta 7a open,) does it still crash when you try to enter the mall? Beta 8 standard is confirmed 100% fine at the mall. in fact, nothing has changed there between those versions. It’s definitely not the mod that is the problem. It is likely that your save file is the issue. Did you try any of the save files I posted to see if it still crashes? Also, if you could upload your save file somewhere I can try and confirm.

  11. Lockstar says:

    Well, I did use the save files you uploaded, but there is a detail I forgot to add (Sorry!). It only crashes when I use the elevator. http://www.mediafire.com/?66sj65dc3ywc602

  12. Lockstar says:

    Well the result was that it still crashed.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Lockstar
      I just confirmed that your save is ok. No crash when entering the mall via teleport with Beta 8. That leaves only the following possibilities:
      * Something is wrong with the game install itself. Your next step should be to verify integrity on Steam.
      * Something is wrong with the mod install. Redownload Beta 8 and reinstall after you verify integrity.

      If it still crashes after doing the above then it could be something else running in the background on your PC that is interfering.

  13. Lockstar says:

    Alright, thanks. I’ll look into it then.

  14. Lockstar says:

    Strange.. it works now. I guess it was another program or something. Sorry about that.

  15. CPast says:

    @Idol,
    Thanks for the mod! It looks great!

  16. Air852 says:

    Idol where can i download the thing for extrate the VPPC files.

  17. rudemaker says:

    Hey I was wondering if the custom missions were a secret or something. They don’t seem to be appearing on the map, however there are two locked slots on the newspaper board.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @rudemaker
      It’s no secret or anything. In the latest build they just don’t do anything yet other than start and end. I’m working on the scripting separately and then plan to integrate them into GotR once they are finished.

  18. rudemaker says:

    OHHHHHH! I saw them in the text files and i thought they were already in the game! Okay cool. So is there any way to get the Carlos homie?

    • IdolNinja says:

      @rudemaker
      Both Aisha and Carlos unlock with completion of the first custom mission. Edit sr2_city_missions.xtbl and remove the prerequisite line from the CS01 entry.

      That way the mission icon will now show up on the map and you can start it (and immediately complete it.) That should unlock both homies.

      EDIT:
      It would have to be a new save with v1.9 though since it reuses previous unlocks. If you are using a completed v1.8 save then it will look like it unlocked but you won’t have the homies.

  19. rudemaker says:

    thanks, but one problem…. don’t know if Its fixable but Carlos is not there only Aisha.

  20. rudemaker says:

    NVM

  21. Paul says:

    If I wanted to gain control of all the hoods, what xtbl files do I need to edit to do so? I love your mod but I would love to have control of all the hoods as well, and I don’t play online so compatibility is not an issue.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Paul
      You’ll need to add back in the hood unlocks to sr2_city_missions.xtbl.

      Find the mission rn01 entry in the file and add back in:
      sr2_ro_hotelmarina03

      Find mission sh_ss_trailerpark and add back in:
      sr2_ss_subexpansion04

      Find mission bh09 and add back in:
      sr2_br_docks04

      EDIT:
      The comments are refusing to display the actual tags correctly even when surrounded with code tags. Those lines above should be enclosed in the Hood tags. See the original file for the exact syntax.

  22. Slicynon says:

    Idol ninja, I love everything that you do man, all the modding you have done is amazing. But when I finally got SR2 for my Windows 7 laptop and went to mod it, the only file from SR2 on my pc is the shortcut that just opens up to steam. Please help me, because I’ve had this amazing idea of running a storyline. It would be the invasion of Stilwater by Ultor, I would change my homies skins to Masako, and put on the riot cheat. But please help me learn what I’m doing, email me please.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Slicynon
      To install the Gentlemen of the Row mod you need to navigate to the SR2 install directory. By default, it would be
      C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\saints row 2\

  23. Slicynon says:

    Ok, thanks man, I found it. But two questions, one, how would I be able to replace my gang styles with Masako, FBI, Swat, Police, NPC’s in suits. And second, do I need a modding tool to install GoTR? I want to play as a masako guy, or an FBI guy, and have my homies be them too. And another thing, so I guess there’s three questions =P, could I also change the model of The Masako or police NPCs so that they were a gang?

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Slicynon
      If you look in the readme that comes with the mod, you’ll see that you only need to copy three files from the archive to your install directory. You do not need any tools.

      Modding SR2 is complicated though. It’s going to require you to setup batch files and manually edit xtbl files and lua scripts. You really need to feel comfortable with working with xml and also scripting (if you’re planning on doing anything with missions) before even thinking about using the tools. I don’t want to sound discouraging or anything, but if you’re having problems finding folders and following instructions for copying files to install the mod then it may be a little out of your depth.

      Having said that, if you still want to learn then I would suggest reading everything you can over at the Volition modding forums. Start with the sticky threads that talk about the tools and setup. Changing gang types is relatively simple compared to many of the other mods. You will not be able to do anything at all with the model though, as there are no tools yet to work with meshes or the cvtf format that defines an npc.

  24. Slicynon says:

    Wow, damn thanks man. This mod is amazing, right now I’m acting like a brotherhood guy lol. But I have REALLY bad lag, I’m not sure why, but I saw that you had some kind of a patch or a porter, if I install that, I won’t have any problems with GoTR will I?

  25. Slicynon says:

    Like I’m on a windows 7 laptop, and I’ve got the graphics on low, everything turned down, and I still lag. I never lag when I’m inside a building, or looking at the floor or the sky. Is there anyway I can get rid of this lag? It’s to the point where I really can’t even drive, I have to call Big Willy and be verbally raped.

  26. Slicynon says:

    So you want me to fix my prefech? By clearing it? I’m sorry, I’m used to GTA modding, so I’ve got no idea what I’m doing. And as I mentioned earlier, I don’t mean like change the model of the NPC, I just mean like replacing Cops with Brotherhood, or something like that.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Slicynon
      I don’t want to seem like a jerk or anything, but I’m not sure what else you want me to tell you. I’ve pointed you at what you need to read and understand. The faq tells you what you need to do and what kind of hardware you need to run it well. I would suggest reading it and following the steps outlined as a first step towards troubleshooting your performance issues. You also need to make sure your hardware is up to the task. If you’re running a low end integrated gpu and < 3Gb RAM then there is really nothing you can do besides upgrade.

      As far as changing gang types goes, you first have to learn how to use the modding tools. Did you read the sticky threads on how it works at the Volition forums like I suggested? Once you understand how the tools work and get them working, and the original files extracted, then you can start making changes to gang types. Once again, it’s complicated and I can’t teach you how to do it. You’ll have to read and understand all the basics first. I would be happy to help you with specific questions about what files to change once you are ready to start modding.

  27. Slicynon says:

    Yeah I did what it said and it works a lot better, thanks man, for everything, btw the knoxvillle mod is sweet.

  28. rudemaker says:

    WAIT, Volition or the SR2 forum? (bombardment of questions! :) ) I would like to do this too, so is the gang type for the saints in the patch file or the common? Am I going to have to find what all of the clothes for them to wear in the games files? Is there any other Misc slots besides loose belt? i saw that there is another make up option that i saw on the female ho saints, would it be possible to use that? Thank you!

    • IdolNinja says:

      @rudemaker
      The SR2 forums are the Volition forums. Same thing.

      Like I mentioned in a previous comment, You can’t edit clothing for npcs. That info is stored in a cvtf format that is not plain text. You can however edit the npc’s _cha file and change the mesh to a different one. For example, if you take a look at the modified folder in gotr, you’ll see 4 npc_s_prephop*_cha.xtbl files. Each npc file is for one of the 4 types for that gang (male solider, female soldier, male lieutentant, female lieutenant.) If you look inside them at the Filename tag, you’ll see that they were changed to the zombie meshes. So, it’s really easy. Just look up the npc _cha file for the mesh name of the character you want to be in your gang, and change it inside whatever gang type you want. Then use the tools to pack your own patch.vpp_pc, of course.

      All npc files are located in common.vpp_pc. But, like all sr2 modding, you would extract them from common.vpp_pc but repack them into patch.vpp_pc since the patch overwrites any common files loaded in memory.

      There are 3 misc slots that I enabled in GotR that were previously npc only:
      loose belt
      pants chain
      back pants pocket

      loose belt has the most memory allocated to it, so if you try an item in one of the other misc slots and it’s invisible then it will probably have to be in loose belt. Bigger clothing items like coats generally need more memory like that.

      Unfortunately, all of the remaining character creation options crash the game when enabled. So, some of that stuff like certain makeup, face paint, carlos’ zombie blood, etc we can’t get to work.

  29. rudemaker says:

    Gotcha, so the trible tatoo in the overshirt slot, can it be moved to whole chest. because i want to wear overshirts with it.

  30. rudemaker says:

    Whats the slot called?

    • IdolNinja says:

      @rudemaker
      It’s actually a multi slot using both chest and stomach. Take a look at tribal tattoo 13 and you can see how to setup based on that.

  31. rudemaker says:

    Thank you, Ill give it a shot and tell you my results as soon as I can get to it.

  32. rudemaker says:

    Well, the tattoos worked perfectly except for tribal 8 it just does not show up at all, which is completely fine with me:) but I would recommend adding it to the next GOTR.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @rudemaker
      I switched those tats over to entire front multi slot and they work great. Thanks! I also took a look at Tribal Tattoo 8 to see if I could make that work too. I tried increasing the mem/cpu allocation for both chest and stomach slots in customization_slots.xtbl, but no go. I guess that one has to stay as overshirt. Ah well.

  33. rudemaker says:

    Q. Would it be possible to make it so you can do the nodes on purpose like at the touch of a button?

    • IdolNinja says:

      @rudemaker
      I can’t think of any way to implement that. Even if I could, it would mean adding extra cts triggers which would crash the game unless we remove existing ones. Since we barely had enough to fit in the three new cribs, I don’t think it’s possible.

      Also, I’ll be testing out those tribal tats and adding them in to GotR with credit to you if they work ok. :)

  34. rudemaker says:

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!. And OKAY

  35. rudemaker says:

    Just wondering if Sunshine’s short beads can be sold anywhere because I want to color them

    • IdolNinja says:

      @rudemaker
      They should be at On the Rag… I’ll double check.

      EDIT:
      Just checked and they’re not for sale. I believe the reason I pulled them from the store was that they were originally in some weird slot rather than one of the misc ones, just to make the outfit work in v1.7. Since they were similar to the short beads I never bothered to add them back in for sale. They certainly can be added back in to any store in customization_stores.xtbl. I’ll also put them back in for sale for the next release of GotR.

      Thanks for the head’s up. :)

  36. rudemaker says:

    You’re welcome :)

  37. Slicynon says:

    Hey, Idol Ninja, I was wondering, I’m currently using V1.9 beta and it’s amazing, but could you add in a cheat that would permanently turn off notoriety? Like if you ever played GTA SA it had a cheat that would stop you from gaining any stars no matter what you did. If you can make a cheat like this could you add it into the final v1.9. That would be amazing. Because sometimes while I’m trying to act like another gang, it’s a bit awkward when I go to help out one of the ronin, and then they turn on me.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Slicynon
      Great idea, but unfortunately the cheats are pretty transparent. i.e. most of the configuration is located in the exe itself that we can’t change. I’ll take a look and see what I can do, but it’s probably not possible at this time.

      EDIT:
      I took a look and there’s no way to implement that other than permanently changing the notoriety.xtbl file so any aggro doesn’t generate notoriety, and then compiling your own custom version. That would be permanent though and not something you could toggle.

  38. rudemaker says:

    that’s still cool. Ill make sure I can keep looking into anything else that can help you

  39. Slicynon says:

    About the wanted thing, have you tried using whatever script they use for the Fuzz missions? Like if you couldn’t make it a cheat, then maybe you could make it a certain mode you go into, like once you go into this mode police officers will be your friends.

    • IdolNinja says:

      @Slicynon
      Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. The activities do not have accessible scripts, but simple xtbl files with limited configuration. Also, you can’t run any scripts outside of missions. I suppose you could create a custom mission that forces no notoriety, but you would have to start the mission to activate it, and that would also lock you out of your garage which is not a very elegant solution. I really couldn’t put something like that into GotR anyway. Extra missions would require extra cts triggers and those are maxed currently, so it would mean removing other features from the game. Sorry.

  40. Air852 says:

    Dude why you are not doing SR2 MODs anymore. Did you happen the thing like me. You can’t Logg In to You Steam Account
