Zombies have invaded Stilwater!

I made some progress with the zombie total conversion getting zeds to spawn in the Hotels and Marina district. This was a pretty huge hurdle, and I’m hoping the rest of it will be easier.  The zombie total conversion is a completely separate mod from GotR and is something I’m working on with InnocentSam. We will probably be releasing an alpha soon for everyone to play with.

I also made some progress with the new custom missions, but I’m still not happy with them. One of the big issues is with a new npc that has mesh problems, and just doesn’t look right. I may just give up on the idea of using new npcs and simply stick with existing ones. It would make me sad though to have to change the big fight in the pyramid against the new fat bald clones and Mehrman npcs to something boring like ultor and scientists. We shall see.

    Is there a way to make the zombie mode a cheat code so it can be toggled? I want to just kill a lot of zombies but not worry wherever ago.

      @Proto
      No, there is no way we’ll ever be able to make it toggle. The only way to make it actually work is to change the core spawning in the game. That’s why it’s going to be a completely separate mod from GotR.

      Also, you’ll need a vanilla save (or new save) to use it. GotR saves will not work with it.

      Yeah, it’s definitely an either or type deal. I may be adding some of the GotR improvements into the zombie mod though. There’s a lot of interesting stuff we have planned for it like ammo dumps and working with the police and FBI against the zombies.

    That would be very cool to have, are the new missions in GotR supposed to be so hard? im stuck on the second one on the power plant! It would also be cool to have different homie options. I am pretty sure you can’t but if the player could design them it would be amazing

      Those new missions are straight from the Corporate Warfare DLC, and yes they are originally that hard.

      I can’t think of any possible way to make homie options as something a player can design. There’s just too much stuff happening behind the scenes with all that. There may just be some new homies available though for it. ;)

    Wait so do I get all the extra clothes and what not from the console DLC’s? As cliche as it is bandannas are cool…and fezes but that is a different more geeky matter. I figured there was to much going on for custom-er homies or it would be originally there. If you can do it I suggest suit and tie homies, sort of Mafia/goodfellas/godfather kind of things. I would love for my homies in suits to not like like Bouncers. Also any way you can take the dragon logo off the motorcycle jackets? it felt odd wearing it while killing Shogo. Sort of “If you can’t beat them join them” feel. Oh and maybe face tattoos, I want to make a sort of Brotherhood character minus the tribal. Jeez since when did I have ideas?

      No, only those two missions have been ported. Minimaul is still attempting to figure out the format for the meshes and textures, so no new clothes or cars yet.

      There is no way to take off that dragon logo without removing it from the Ronin jackets as well.

      Face tats are already in the game. Check Nobody loves me. They had to be stuck in the shins slot though to make them work. You’ll know them because it will focus on the shins in the store, but nothing will appear there in camera when you select them (since they are on the face.)

    I am right to assume it’ll have a lot more zombies? Mall edition of the vanilla ZU was fun, but lacked the “horde” feeling of the original minigame.

      The plan is to have a lot more zombies. Currently every single npc besides cops and gangs are replaced by zombies. I’m going to try and raise the limit for how many npcs can spawn at once as well.

      The splash screen is fantastic. You should be able to use pegtool and extract the contents of ui_legal_gamespy.peg_pc included in the modified folder with the latest beta to get the source for it. I could also upload the png as well if that would be easier.

    By the way, in the “Unlockable Rewards > Vehicles” menu, Gyro Daddy for the FUZZ activity is misspelled “Gryro”.

      Good catch on the Gyro text. I’ll correct that in the next release.

      The plan is for this to be a separate mod. An alpha version will be available for download as soon as we can get the basics working, and we’ll continue to release updated versions as more features are added.

    cool, well this zombie idea sounds brilliant, am i right in understanding that pedz everywhere are all zombies trying to kill you? what would be cool then is if your player starts at some far streched point of stillwater and needs to get from point a to point b. Much like real zombie games and films, surviors are always trying to get out or leave to a “safety zone”. so im thinking you (and what would be even more awesome, your co-op buddy) starts at point A, with low powered guns and have to make it through the districts and islands to point b ( which could make sense to be the airport?). Inbetween is the adventure of trying to make it through the undead swarm of zombies trying to kill you :D its upto you to find a good car (4X4?) and good weapons, and leave still water for every by plane!!!

    I no this can sound very complex, but it would be cool to hear your thoughts. I would imagine that driving through and running over the zombies would make everything dirt easy? but maybe create some sort of check points that means they have to leave the car, hmm

      I think that’s a great idea, and loosely matches the structure I was thinking of for a future zombie mission I want to work on. Kind of a Left 4 Dead thing. The only issue is that it couldn’t possibly work in an open world situation due to the limitations of how this engine works and what can be modded with it. Something like that would all have to be scripted as a custom mission.

      Something I haven’t mentioned yet is that I want to create all new zombie centric missions for this mod. 30+ missions is a huge amount of work though. Heck, it’s taking me months just to finish two new ones for GotR! The new zombie missions could be shorter quick ones though like helping the police defend the police station from an attack, or driving the big combine with the spikes (the Kent) through the streets killing x number of zeds. Anyway, a lot of it is all just brainstorming right now. I will say that alpha builds will be released publicly as progress is made so fans will be able to check it out soon and won’t have to wait. :D

      Also, I got a chuckle out of your nick since I just watched The Godfather 1-3 only a few days ago. I just beat Mafia II and was on a bit of an italian gangster kick. ;)

    haha :D . my sr2 charcter is also a Michael Corelone-Style italian gangster =D , yeah i no.. most guys would go for the “CJ” type african american gangster but i chose classy, I-talians =D=d==d

    Hm i see , that still sounds awesome tho idol !! 30 missions, yeah i can imagine that it would be a mind blowing amount of work,

    Tho i guess when we strip it down, the basic elements of these missions can be repetitive.. kill zombies, however i guess what you can keep changing in every level you make, is the diffculty coming from spawn points/ wave numbers / equipment etc. Im sure once you set the basic elements, you can make missions somewhat quicker you know.. i may be completly wrong here lol i dunno, just trying to make it sounds less daunting, but i love the ideas of “defending things” =D

    Anyway , im sure that the ideas you choose in the end that are compatiabile will be great, i wish i had the skills to help you mod lol :(
    However if you need that PR Admin kinda guy im your man, my head can explode with ideas =D
