SRTT SDK Progress

Myself, Minimaul, Jeff Thompson, and Mike Wilson have been hard at work these past few days testing out beta tools for the upcoming SRTT SDK, which Jeff has officially christened as “Kinzie’s Tool Box.” It’s been a really interesting experience since our workflow for modding is very different from Volition’s. A huge part of the effort isn’t actually the file formats or the tool creation like I had originally thought it would be. It’s more about trying to understand the workflow of both sides and come up with the best way to do things, as well as creating an easy to use step by step documented process for non-technical users. This last part is extremely important to me since a modding community thrives on creative original content.

Things are moving faster than I had hoped for, and we already have working cvtf tools along with table editors, packagers, and viewers for the other formats. I don’t have an ETA yet for a public release, but definitely stay tuned for more details soon.

Sorry if this was gone over before, but how robust are these mod tool in terms of adding back missing features from SR2? Will it be possible to add layered clothing or the SR2 diversions/activities that were left out? I understand if it’s still too early to tell and I imagine it would be a lot of work even if possible, but just wanted to ask. It’s certainly exciting to see official mod tools unlocking the capabilities of what the talented mod community has already done on this game.

    Workflow?
What does that mean in this context and how does it delay things?

    • IdolNinja says:

Workflow is simply the full process from start to finish. i.e. how you do things to mod/change something. Also, it’s not “delaying” anything. It’s simply a matter of making the tools compatible with the way we, as modders, do things instead of how a team of 200 developers at Volition use them to permanently commit changes and build packages. Different mindset. Different workflow. Different command line parameters. etc.

Thank you, I really appreciate the efforts you guys are putting into all of this, including your past efforts. Keep up the good work, I still can’t believe this is happening.

Hey idolninja have you heard that saints row 4 has been banned from Australia :-(

Makes me wonder if they will allow GTA5 in their country too since its supposedly just as bad if not worse.

I feel bad for the saints row fans in Australia :-(

here is the article if you don’t believe me

    • IdolNinja says:

Yeah, the Volition guys confirmed it too. Sucks for the fans, and for Volition too having to now spend extra time trying to censor the game. The only “good” news is that the rest of the world will still have the uncensored version.

      • SuperSaint/BroFist says:

It dose suck for those guys but at this point all I can say is

At least they still might be able to play the game.

I think the Australian government is ass-backwards with their polices, I mean they allowed saints row the third to be released but not this one? that’s just stupid. its like a bunch of angry parents are running the show down there.

like I said a least they still MIGHT be able to play it.

  6. SuperSaint/BroFist says:

The idiotic Australian government have just confirmed too two new things in saints row 4 one of witch is “the anal probe” the second is “alien narcotics” witch means drugs are now returning….. sort of.
