Gentlemen of Steelport v1.0 Beta 1 RELEASE!

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

Happy holidays!
Gentlemen of Steelport v1.0 Beta 1

While it doesn’t have everything I wanted to include for the first release, it does build asm files dynamically, and also gives you complete control over what mods you want to include.

v1.0 beta 1 changelog

Mission Replay v4 by IdolNinja, gibbed, Corrodias, luckz

Adds Mission Replay entries to the cell phone for completed missions. Replaying a mission will set the world back to that state, so it’s an easy way to toggle things on and off like zombies, stag, the statue, bridges being up or down, etc.

Known Issues:
* Some vanilla save files simply won’t work; choosing the replay in the phone does nothing. Starting a new save with the mod installed should fix the issue from that point on… maybe
* Some users have reported that the Murderbrawl mission audio plays slightly too fast on replay
* There is no cancel option for the first 2 missions. If you try to exit then it will bump you back to the main menu instead of back to the open world

Enable all Vehicle Customization and Delete Reward Vehicles by Gibbed and IdolNinja

Removes the restrictions so any car, boat, or plane can be customized. It does not work yet with helicopter class vehicles.

Known Issues:
* Selecting Rims for the Woodpecker crashes the game
* Attempting to customize helis bumps you back to the crib after it flashes a bunch of menus up

Wardrobe Color Changer by IdolNinja

Allows you to choose the color for any owned clothing in your wardrobe as if you were purchasing it.

More Cheats Smarter Cheats by Bmhur1, Flyn, IdolNinja

Adds 8 new cheats and removes the cheat flagging on many of the vanilla cheats where they don’t make sense to flag, for example zombie peds, mascot peds, weather changes, etc. There is also an optional Open version included that removes ALL cheat flagging for everything.

New Cheats:

Low Gravity – moonwalker
No Hud – nohud
Change time of day – ticktock
Evil Cars – werecars
Pedestrian War – shitstorm
Giant Player – fuckimhuge
Tiny Player – sotiny
Raining Pedestrians – itsrainingmen

Extended Sliders by IdolNinja
Greatly extends the range of the character creation sliders
Known Issues:
* Your existing character will look WEIRD using these and you’ll need a trip to the surgeon

Clip Editor by gibbed
There are 2 versions of the clip editor included; with and without the hide hud option.

Sticky cam for kbam users by IdolNinja
Prevents the camera from recentering while driving

Disable Tutorials by IdolNinja

Disables all popup tutorials

Known Issues:
* Also prevents the prompt to press Y(E) to Store your Vehicles. You can still store them, the prompt just does not appear.
* Prevents Escort activity prompts from appearing. For example, “Do a powerslide for 3 seconds”

* Specter speed slightly increased by Jon

* Enable Tank Radios by IdolNinja

Gentlemen of Steelport Batch Installer

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

I spent most of tonight putting together a batch installer for the upcoming Gentlemen of Steelport v1 beta 1. It’s now correctly building asm files dynamically based on menu option selections, and is almost ready for release.

The installer should give the player a lot of advanced control over what is included in a personal build of the mod, as well as an easy preconfigured build option for standardized coop. I should also note that creating this batch installer is merely a stepping stone towards an actual Windows/GUI mod manager.

Tutorial Bug Warning

Monday, December 19th, 2011

You may want to hold off on downloading the tutorial disabled mod until I can work out a few kinks. Tiger Escort doesn’t seem to be working correctly with it (the Courage meter never rises,) and the “Press Y to store vehicle” prompt will occasionally not disappear. You can clear that message by simply starting and cancelling a mission or activity if it does stick though.

I have a feeling that I may need to take a different approach with how I block them and already have a few ideas. More news to come.

Tutorial Disable Mod

Monday, December 19th, 2011

I released a mod that disables all popup tutorials, like the ones on how to use your cell phone to transfer money, how to access the Saints Book, etc. I hate those stupid popups so much. They drive me crazy with how huge they are and always showing up at the most inopportune times during combat. They are also extremely broken in vanilla since they keep appearing long after you finish the game and telling you again how the basics work.

I also created a version of the tutorial disable mod that’s bundled with the mission replay mod as a favor for a friend, in case anyone has trouble using gibbed’s tools.

More Mission Replay Fixes

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

Fixed the following SRTT Mission Replay mod bugs earlier tonight:

* m07 Return to Steelport ponycart chase fixed so Saints will not spawn and interrupt
* m09 The Ho Boat end cutscene now shows the correct interior for the 3 Count Casino
* Saints HQ is now restored to purple lighting at endgame when the crib is restored. This actually fixes a bug in vanilla

I also spent some time trying to figure out how the brutes and Oleg can interact with world objects like news stands and trash cans to pick up and throw. I really hate it that Volition removed this ability from the player like it was in sr2. Ripping out pay phones, parking meters, and all sorts of other stuff to beat up npcs and your friends with was great fun. I would love to be able to reinstate this ability for the player if at all possible.

Mission Replay Mod updated for new patch

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

The new Mission Replay v3 has been updated to work with the new SRTT patch that came out yesterday. There are also a couple of other fixes included as well:

v3 Changelog

asm files updated to correctly work with the new SRTT patch that released on 12/12/11

The Nuke Plant reactor crib and 3 Count Casino crib are now correctly restored on mission replay

The Belgian Problem replay no longer teleports players to the ocean on success

SRTT Update Today Breaks Mods

Monday, December 12th, 2011

This new update is not specifically targeted at mods, or is anything malicious on Volition’s part. The reason that some mods are breaking is simply because the modded asm files need to be updated with a new index taking the new patched files into account. Known mods that are affected by this are the mission replay, customize all vehicles, wardrobe color changer, delete reward vehicles, and clip editor. There may be more.

We’ll be working to get everything updated soon. In the meantime you can still play the game by removing all mods with the following extensions from your sr3 install folder: *.lua, *.xtbl, *.str2_pc, *.asm_pc.

Squashing Replay Bugs

Saturday, December 10th, 2011

Corrodias and I were able to track down the last of the mission replay mod bugs, and the interiors of the nuke plant and 3 Count Casino cribs now load correctly. The trick was creating a new thread in the cleanup function and adding a slight delay before their restoration. I want to do some thorough testing over the weekend, but expect to have a corrected release out sometime before Monday.

I’ve also been reading some pretty shitty and ignorant comments that players have been posting on forums regarding how “Volition is lazy because look what the modders did with mission replay.” Everyone needs to stop for a moment and realize that this mod was a complete fucking nightmare to get working right and introduced a massive amount of bugs.

The main problem with replay is with how the open world changes over the course of the game and permanently loads and unloads different zones that need to be tracked. The missions and cutscenes expect a linear progression and for the world to be inĀ  a certain state for everything to work right. Changing even one thing in a replay has a cascade effect that touches almost every single other mission and the open world itself, most notably how stronghold cribs work both before and after you acquire them.

The bottom line is that there is absolutely zero chance that Volition could have shipped this feature without an ungodly amount of additional testing and bug fixing. If it was my my call, this would have been the very first thing I would have axed to make release date.

Wheel Size Limit Raised Mod

Friday, December 9th, 2011

Veerek has released his mod that extends the range of wheel sizes when customizing cars. A lot of people have been very interested in this one, from the previous news post about it.
