Cruise Control hits Rock Bottom

I finished up a small mod that moves the Cruise Control onscreen text to the bottom of the screen so it doesn’t overlap the action/driving.

This was an interesting mod because the added y value that worked for widescreen 16:9 and 16:10 resolutions ended up pushing the text down too far in 4:3 resolutions. To make it work, I found a function I could use in another script named vint_hack_is_std_res(). This function evaluates to true for standard resolutions and false for anything else. The rest was simply a matter of setting up a conditional block and assigning a different (lesser) value for the added y position if it evaluated true.

I’ve uploaded the mod here if anyone wants to a preview. It will also be in the next beta release of GotR.

InnocentSam just linked me his Sam (from Sam & Max) tattoo he’s been working on, and it looks awesome. I asked him to throw together a clothing logo of it as well, and I’ll be adding them both into GotR asap.

Powertools Progress!

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the interface progress with the new version of Powertools, courtesy of Kyle. Minimaul and Kyle are basically rebuilding Powertools from the ground up with extra functionality like a console which will give players the ability to enter lua commands and run scripts.

Minimaul is also hoping to find a more permanent fix for the timing issues that plague SR2 in Windows 7, rather than slowing the game down like it does now.  If this is accomplished, it should eliminate a lot of the coop crashing and even possibly fix the broken multiplayer component!

All Cheats Cheat!

Cheaters rejoice! GotR now has a brand new cheat #1337 that adds all cheats to the phone with just this one single code! With this spiffy new cheat, you will no longer have to toil away and manually enter in each cheat individually 100+ times!

I was able to accomplish this by adding a new conditional block in cellphone.lua with all the adds, and a global flag that tracks it all. It was all sorts of fun trying to figure out a creative way to stop it from playing 100 “THWONK”  sounds at the same time too.

This mod will be in the next beta release of GotR, but you can try it out yourself now by downloading the source here. As per usual, simply extract the contents into:

..optional_mod_stuff1-MODDERS_-_PUT_YOUR_OWN_PERSONAL_MODS_HERE

and build your patch. Enjoy!

Tattoos and naming cleanup

Tattoo modding is pretty interesting. It seems that your new tattoo has to fit within the dimensions of the ink of the old one. Here’s the new Professor Genki’s Super Ethical Reality Climax tattoo I’m working on. This pic was my first attempt replacing the Skull02 upper back tattoo. See how the image only fits in the outline of the viking helmet?

Here is the fixed version replacing the Yin Yang upper back tattoo which is more square so everything fits correctly.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Professor Genki’s Super Ethical Reality Climax is the new activity from Saints Row: The Third which Volition describes as a cross between a Japanese crazy gameshow and the Running Man. The “Ethical” part of the name makes me wonder if the player will have to make decisions of a horrible nature deciding the fate of npcs or your coop partner. Sounds awesome, and this tat is just the kind of a thing a crazy fan of the show might get!

I also cleaned up the names of the some of the hidden outfits that were unlocked in GotR from way back with the Customization mod. The STREET_1, SEXY_1, Streaker, and CRAZY_1, SUIT_2, and SUIT_3 now all have descriptive names. The two purple suits (SUIT_2 and SUIT_3) were also moved to Impressions where it makes more sense to sell them.

I also fixed the Police Outfit not being for sale. It is still locked for regular play and unlocked by the Fuzz activity in Standard, but the Open version now has it correctly for sale at Let’s Pretend like the other unlockable outfits are. Thanks for reporting that one, Georgoon!

Winged Fleurs and Olive Drab

Here’s a new winged fleur de lys clothing logo, and also a new one for one of the truly great SR2 cutscene moments. I also added an Army Olive Drab color by request for my bro Trilby to get his military on.

CORRECTION: The original design of the winged fleur de lys was actually by Truxas IV and the stencil I used to create the tattoo and clothing logos was by ryorininseven.

Working Tattoos!

Finally got new colorable tattoos working in-game without clipping! The trick was to use a plain white background (255,255,255) with only pure black for the tat (0,0,0) then change the _desc file from DXT1 to DXT5 and the UnknownFlags1A from 0701 to 0101. This particular design was by ryorininseven on the Something Awful forums, and I liked it so much that I finally buckled down and spent the time to make it work.

Now we can create all sorts of our own tats!

and build your patch. It replaces the Upper Back Star Tattooo at Rusty’s Needle.
