More new loading screens

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Here’s a couple more loading screens I threw together. The new gradient map I mentioned in my last post has helped tremendously knocking my time down from an hour per screen to about 5 minutes. Since curly was such a great help, I thought I would do two of them featuring him in his ninja outfit.

Loading Screen Sombreros

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

My good buddy Curly Haired Boy spent tonight working on a gradient map to make my life easier with the loading screen mods. It worked out awesome and I created a tutorial on how to use it to make the load screens look even closer to the originals.

Here’s one that I did tonight using the new gradient map. I think it turned out out pretty awesome.

The big guy wearing the sombrero is my good friend Digital that I met when I formed the Gentlemen of the Row Penny Arcade group. He also kindly hosts all my files and pics on his server and is one of the nicest and most generous guys I have ever met. He’s also hilarious fun to coop with and we always laugh non-stop and get up to stupid awesome shenanigans in any games we play together.

Digital’s Pancho outfit that’s for sale in the Gentlemen of the Row mod is a tribute to his SR2 character. :D

Of Betas, Outfits, Mehrman, and Loadscreens

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Lots of news and interesting stuff is going on.

Gentlemen of the Row v1.9 BETA 4 was released yesterday with a lot of graphic changes, additional logos, and other tweaks and fixes.

I created 4 new outfits for BETA 4; FBI, SWAT, Ultor Goon, and Masako.

I also found some temp load screens tucked away in the peg files as I began changing over the pictures. They look like they may have been placeholders before Volition made the actual ones.

There’s also a new surprise coming in the next beta concerning the legend of the mysterious Mehrman. I won’t say too much, other than: BEWARE!

Splash Screen Shenanigans

Sunday, October 24th, 2010

Knocked this new splash screen out today.

After doing some research, I found out that the actual Gamespy font is Compacta SH-Black. There was no way that I was going to pay $26 to use it only one time though. I ended up using Haettenschweiler which is a free font that looks close but is a bit skinnier.

What I did was paste the image of the text in Haettenschweiler in a new image, and then stretch that image horizontally until I got it the right size and width. It took a lot of manipluation to get it to look right, but I think the end result speaks for itself.

More excellent work from Public_Enema:

Spray Tags

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

Public_Enema just sent me his first attempt at a GotR spray tag. I told him to stop right there and not to touch a single thing. It is an amazing piece of work and I am putting it into the game as is. It is absolutely perfect.

Loading Screens

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

I dug into the tilesheets and found all the black curly bits that make up the borders of the loading screen. With a little magic tweaking I was able to create a template to use for inserting my own custom load screens into the game.
Here’s a Mass Effect 2 one I did as a quick test.

One of the things I’m planning to do with this is to mod the SR2 cutscenes in different ways, and capture some new images to manipulate and use for GotR.

Here’s a familiar face. :D

The Corps is Mother, The Corps is Father

I couldn’t sleep, so made a few new logos to add in. This time I went on a bit of a sci-fi kick:

Stilwater Gets a Little Soul

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Made a few more logos tonight with a 70s blaxploitation theme. I’m a huge fan of all these movies, especially anything with Rudy Ray Moore.

Public_Enema also finished the main menu which blew my mind. I’m still reeling from all the awesome.

Apparel for the Distinguished Gentleman

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

I did some playing around with a new Gentlemen of the Row logo earlier tonight. I may also do a second design that’s a bit more funky if I get around to it.

I may see about trying to get a real life hat and shirt made so I can wear it around town. :D

I also bought Windows 7 Home Premium today and finally said goodbye to Vista. The family pack was only $150 for 3 upgrade licenses, so I figured I could also upgrade my wife’s PC and laptop for cheap. SR2 runs amazingly well on Windows 7. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least.
