Custom Missions Framework

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

I setup and tested the framework for the first custom mission tonight. All it does so far is start the new mission at the Saints HQ Crib, and then ends it in a success. All the basic functions are processing correctly though and it successfully unlocked the new Aisha and Carlos homies on completion.

I’m a bit worried that it may start crashing with the extra coordinate cts entries needed to make it work. Hopefully I’ll have enough space left to actually finish it.

Arena Garages and Ambulance

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

I added two new garages to the Arena today. One is a car garage, and the other is a heli one so you can drive/fly around and cause trouble. I think it will be a lot of fun in coop. I’m also talking with Brand Newb about setting up a spawn group inside the Arena to spawn in demo derby cars so you can get in some target practice. :D

I also integrated Public_Enema‘s new Ambulance textures and logo which look fantastic (as per usual.)

Arrrrgh Matey!

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Public_Enema gave me a hand tonight with inserting a pirate hook UI icon into the tilesheet to replace the butterfly knife one. My original version looked okay, but was way too light and needed a good outline.  My hook really looked out of place and didn’t really match the other weapons. Public_Enema was able to work the hook icon into something that looks fantastic alongside the other weapons. Thanks PE! It looks awesome! :D

Now to just figure out how to get the name itself to change…

Riddle me this!

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Sam was able to edit the texture on the crazy salesman’s jacket and change the dollar sign symbols over to question marks like the Riddler. Looks really great now with the special Riddler outfit that we released with 1.7.

Phillips Building Crib Pics

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Here’s some pics of the new Phillips Building crib. There are currently four teleports lined up underneath the walkway. These lead to the Arena from the Brotherhood mission Showdown, the top floor of the Tohoku Hotel from the Ronin mission Room Service, the Gymansium from the Shaundi workout cutscene, and the Super Secret Island.

There are also all the crib utilities setup like weapons, cash, clothes, etc, and a working heli garage on the roof.

Phillips Building Progress and Triggers

Monday, September 27th, 2010

The Phillips Building crib is finished after resolving some some serious crashing issues related to having too many coordinate entries in the loaded cts files. This crashing was a direct result of all of the new things that have been added to GotR like garages, stores, crib utilities, etc. Luckily I was able to find and delete about 25 unused coordinate entries for cut activities and the train stations which didn’t make it into the final game. By removing these unused entries, it allowed me to add the additional ones needed for all three of the new cribs (barely.)

I was also able to finally figure out how to disable triggers in the lua so that the teleporters and crib utilities don’t show up in the cutscenes and missions. This has been a major headache that prevented us from adding teleporters due to the problems it would introduce for missions. This success tonight also means I won’t have to move the crib icons off map since people can buy them at any time and it won’t interfere with missions!

I should have some pics up soon with the new Phillips Building crib in action. The helipad up on top of the tower looks really cool!  :D

Crib Solution!

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

With a little bit of thinking outside the box I was able to get the new cribs working. It’s not exactly an ideal solution… and they don’t unlock with the story missions as I had hoped… but at least they are all working and just require them to be manually purchased way off the map to hide their icons.

I’ll have some more details to post soon!

For Whom the Crib Tolls

Friday, September 17th, 2010

It’s been a frustrating evening  of Crib function and unlock testing. The final score of the night:

Cribs: 1  -  IdolNinja: 0

Things just don’t seem to be working the way they should for crib unlocks. Tests are returning strange results and odd behavior, and I’m really starting to wonder if I missed something along the way. At this point, it’s time to step back and start over with testing each single step for the crib and confirming results with multiple saves.

I do have a couple of thoughts on alternate approaches to make this all work. Hope is not yet lost.

I also ended up playing a bunch of Minecraft and Star Wars Battlefront 2 with the Gents , which helped to dispel some of the frustration. Nothing is quite as soothing as a huge group of friends mining stone and building huge castles and lighthouses. :D

The Ups and Downs of SR2 Cribs

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

The good news is that I was able to successfully integrate RedRage’s basic Aisha crib mod into Gentlemen of the Row. In addition, I was also able to finally tie working teleports to crib ownership. This means that we finally have a way to restrict a teleport  until certain requirements are met so they won’t break missions.

The bad news is that the actual crib unlock itself didn’t work. I think that the Redlight crib may have been a special instance where the lua for tss02, (the Appointed Defender mission,) processed a transparent function called crib_purchasing_unlock(). This function might be  acting in conjuction with unlockables.xtbl to award the Redlight crib after that mission.

In short, this may be a major problem in how I was planning on making the crib unlocks work. Hopefully, I can come up with an alternate solution to make it happen.

New Twitter and RSS Feeds

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

I added both a Twitter and RSS Feed to today for anyone who prefers to follow news that way. I also registered with so that all blog posts will process as a tweet behind the scenes automatically.

Thanks Koen for the great idea! :D
