PS3 Onscreen mod and new custom colors

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Megacherv has released a PS3 version of my 360 Onscreen button mod that replaces all the onscreen prompts with the PS3 buttons. He’ll also be maintaining the PS3 version of Gentlemen of the Row moving forward.

Firespite also posted some details about his upcoming custom color mod as well which adds 30+ new custom colors available for clothing.

More Clone Progress

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Foamcup gave me a hand tonight grabbing some cts coordinates and I was able to get the Samedi and Saints clones completely finished and working. I still need to tweak the Brotherhood clones and do the Ronin ones and it will be ready for release.

Attack of the Clones

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Made some progress today on getting an Ultor secret cloning facility done as part of Operation Homie Recruit. Foamcup was a huge help in figuring out which files we actually needed and trimmed down the 200 files per clone to only 3. InnocentSam also figured out how to get clone variants working.

Slots-O-Rama

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

So, I’ll bet your asking yourself: “IdolNinja, what pray tell is a slot?” Let me explain. A slot is a part of your character you can equip something to. Think of your character like a Mr. Potato Head. You equip a belt in the belt slot. You put shoes on the shoe slot. You stick eyeballs in the eyes slot. etc. There are quite a few strange and weird slots too that don’t even seem to get used by the game like an “armpit hair” slot, or a “forehead” slot. The bottom line is that every single clothing/accessory in the game has to have a slot defined as part of its definition.

Up until today, there has been a mystery involving 3 NPC only slots called “back pants pocket”, “pants chain”, and “loose belt.” Most of the new clothing items you have seen in the mod were originally in these slots for npcs to use. These particular slots had no memory allocation, and if you tried to use them then it would crash the game. Our work around for this problem was to put these items in other normal usable slots.  That’s why you would see tons and tons of items in the bra category. The bra slot was our go-to slot to use so they would actually work in-game.

Using what I learned with the eyeball and fingernail custom colors, I was able to actually make these npc slots usable now for the player. All 3 of these slots can now support items and all the accessories and oddball items have been moved into these 3 slots to use. For example, at the stores, the bluetooth headset is now bought under a menu called “MISC”, from a submenu called “MISC 3″ (which is the name I gave the “loose belt” slot.) In the wardrobe all your items will automatically be sorted into this new menu since clothing all happens dynamically via the lua scripting in-game.

The benefit of all this is that you can now equip multiple accesories in-game. For example, an Ultor Security Badge + wallet chain + surgical mask + bra can all be worn now at the same time instead of having to pick just one. These npc slots have driven all of us modders crazy for the longest time, and I personally thought I would never see them actually usable in-game this way. Not to mention being able to build the custom MISC menus to sort them just blows my mind. :D

Long Chains and Medallions

Friday, June 25th, 2010

I was able to get long chains and long medallions working, using the new info I discovered in customization_categories and _icons xtbl. Players can now wear all 3 types of chains/medallions at once.

There are a ton of different chains/medallions left to test and setup in Bling Bling and On Thin Ice which I’ll probably get to over the weekend.

Nail Polish and Teeth working

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Based on the work I did for eye color, I was able to also make basic nail polish purchasable with the full custom color grid to choose from. Until now, users were forced to set nail polish as a plastic surgeon option under beards with a very limited color pallete.

Also, I was able to make human teeth purchasable. Sadly they are not color customizable, but the neat thing is that if you buy a set you can then remove them just like a clothing item, similar to the eyes, and run around with missing eyes, and teeth/tongue. How’s that for some nightmare fuel!

Eye Colors for Sale

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

I was able to get eye colors working for sale at all the clothing stores!

The implications of this are huge because it may just be the key to getting all the other slot items working like pinky rings, low chains and medallions, and other weird slot stuff like pants chain and back pants pocket items which are npc-only slot options.

I actually woke up at 3am from a dream with the answer. It actually happens quite often when I’m coding or have an interesting development problem. Weird, huh?

Custom Eye Colors

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

I was able to get custom colors partially working for the iris and sclera. It’s in a preliminary state though where you have to manually set them in the xtbl instead of choosing from a color grid at the surgeon. I think I may be able to use the clothing lua script as a template to fix that though.

Watch Movies at the Movies!

Monday, June 21st, 2010

I added a TV lightcone at the Humboldt Park movieplex so you can watch cutscenes there after buying the Downtown Loft crib. While this isn’t exactly the most ground breaking mod I’ve ever done, it’s still kind of neat for a few minutes worth of work.

Low Gravity Cheat: No Fall Damage Save Fix

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

It was brought to my attention earlier that by activating the low gravity cheat, it will permanently take away your no fall damage bonus. This happens in plain vanilla non-modded, and still occurs even if the cheat is modded to non-flagging. I looked into the issue and did some comparing of save files and figured out why. The low gravity cheat for some reason inserts the following 2 characters into your save:

€>  (hex values 80 3E)

To fix the issue, just load your save in a hex editor (after backing it up of course) and replace the above two characters with blank spaces. i.e. hex 00 00.

Problem Save:

Corrected Save:

I’m going to return the low gravity cheat to a flagging save in the next release of Gentlemen of the Row, and also add a note to the readme so people are aware of the issue.  This should be a very quick and simple edit, but if anyone is uncomfortable using a hex editor and needs help, just send me an email with your save attached and I can take care of it for you. You can reach me at idolninja at my gmail.com address.
