Possible Saints Row 4 news at PAX East

Sunday, March 3rd, 2013

Deep Silver’s Marketing and PR Manager, Aubrey Norris, has hinted at some huge news being dropped at PAX East this year. Mark your calenders for March 22-24 and prepare yourself for possible new Saints Row media!

Saints Row 4 on Steam!

Monday, February 4th, 2013

We now have proof that Saints Row 4 will be released on PC and use Steam for DRM just like SRTT. The interesting thing is that there are actually two apps; one labeled as Saints Row IV and the other as Saints Row Episode 4.

It looks like the steamcommunity link for the app no longer works, but it was up and listed as Saints Row Episode 4 just moments ago. Google search still comes up, but unfortunately the page doesn’t look like it was cached.

Koch Media and Volition speak out

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

Both Koch Media and Volition had some extremely positive things to say about the future of the Saints Row franchise and the studio itself. Dan Cermak, Volition’s General Manager was quoted as saying that “[Koch Media] love Saints Row and the idea behind it,” and that “over-the-top game play is integral to their success.” He also stated that all Volition employees have been retained, and that they will continue to develop Saints Row 4.

Geoff Mulligan, COO of Deep Silver (Koch Media’s publishing arm) was quoted saying “Saints Row and Metro hold a special place in the hearts and minds of anyone who loves exceptional video games.” Koch Media’s CEO Klemens Kundratitz also called Saints Row “magnificent.” He went on to state that he was proud to welcome “the visionaries and talented forces at Volition.”

Another great piece of news from the article is that there is no longer any pressure on Volition regarding quarterly earning projections since Koch Media is a private company; unlike THQ which had publicly traded stock.

The bottom line is that Volition now gets a home for all their talent with a company that loves their work and is going to support them fully while also taking off all the pressure they were under so they can make the best Saints Row game they possibly can.

Volition’s new owner

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013

Koch Media had the highest bid on Volition, and presumably the Saints Row IP along with it (though it’s not specifically mentioned.) You may know them better by their game publishing arm named Deep Silver who has been responsible for titles like Dead Island, Sacred 2, and Risen. Deep Silver are also responsible for some of the most backwards terrible unapologetic misogyny in the industry with the Dead Island torso statue situation. I really don’t see how I can feel good about supporting anything that they have their hands in no matter how much I love the series.

What Should Happen to THQ’s Franchises

Saturday, January 12th, 2013

Destructoid’s Casual Friday roundtable discusses some potentially good homes for THQ’s franchises now that the Jan 22 auction date has been set. Saints Row gets the most love (naturally,) and it was awesome to see some props for the criminally underrated and charmingly ludicrous 50 Cent’s Blood on the Sand.

THQ to be auctioned off piecemeal

Monday, January 7th, 2013

A judge has ruled that the THQ sale to Clearwater is not legal, and other companies should have the ability to purchase them. An auction has been announced for January 22, and studios such as Electronic Arts and Warner Brothers will be bidding. The potentially bad news is that all of THQ’s assets are up for bidding individually, so it’s possible that the Saints Row franchise could be sold to one company, while Volition is sold to another.

THQ outlook perhaps not so bleak

Thursday, December 20th, 2012

The president of THQ, Jason Rubin, has issued a statement that makes it sound like the sale is more of an investment for Clearlake and that everything will continue as normal with its studios and releases. I find it difficult to believe anything coming from Rubin, but I certainly hope that it works out like he says for the sake of the studios.

THQ selling Volition and other studios

Wednesday, December 19th, 2012

THQ filed for bankruptcy protection today, and has announced that it is selling all studios and properties. Here’s hoping that Volition finds a new home and is able to continue developing games. dns issues resolved

We’re currently experiencing some dns problems with our forums and Minimaul is working with live support to get it all straightened out. This is only affecting users on certain ISPs, but if you are one of the people having problems you can use this direct link until it’s resolved (no pun intended.) ;)
